Renaissance-Era wine windows
are made for social distancing

When the coronavirus pandemic arrived in Italy, Florence discovered that one of its architectural peculiarities was perfect for the distancing maintained between people, so important in this period. In Delle Belle Donne Street there are some small arch-shaped windows from which the wine was once served to the customer, keeping the distance from the seller. The Wine Windows Association has cataloged 150 shop windows in the historic center of Florence and another 100 in the rest of Tuscany. At the Vivoli artisan ice cream parlour the small window has been reopened."The customer - said the daughter of the owner Giulia Gori - rings the bell, places an order and we put the ice cream cup on the windowsill, avoiding direct contact with the customer". Also Babae wine shop continues to use its window for business, finding a renewed usefulness.
