In order to respond in the most articulate and accurate manner to the professional demands of the working world, the second cycle degree in Foreign Languages for International Communication and Cooperation is organised around two curricula. The first is vocational (Languages for International Communication) and aims to train highly qualified professionals, able to operate at an international level with an excellent knowledge of two European languages (besides Italian); the second is linguistic and literary (European Languages, Literatures and Cultures) and aims to prepare language and literature teachers and trainers, and teachers of Italian as a second language, able to access specialized teacher training courses in the context of Italian and foreign scholastic institutions or training centres.
Graduates issuing from the vocational curriculum will be able to carry out activities in their chosen languages which require the careful elaboration and interpretation of complex textual and discursive products. They will exploit their metalinguistic skills to appropriately identify and use the stylistic and lexical registers pertaining to different professional ambits. Graduates will also possess adequate IT and telematic skills and be able to apply them within the suitable contexts of use.
Graduates who have taken the language and literature curriculum will be able, in their chosen languages, to work as editors and reviewers of multilingual texts, to carry out historical-critical analyses of literary texts with the appropriate use of the specialized terminology, as well as acquire a functional methodology in the teaching of Italian as a foreign language, of Italian literature and of that of their selected foreign languages and literatures, relevant to teaching at the various school levels as well as for distance learning.
The language and linguistics and historical-cultural courses differ within the two curricula by providing specific emphases on the political-institutional and juridical-economic fields (for the professionally oriented Languages for International Communication curriculum), or in the teaching and literary fields (for the teaching and teacher-trainer curriculum). In both curricula the system of courses taught guarantees a background and training suitable for responding to the demands made of the world of culture by today's global reality in the areas of intercultural and transcultural business mediation, or in that of the teaching of languages and literatures, thanks also to their being enhanced by knowledge of the political-institutional, cultural and literary aspects of the geopolitical areas relating to their chosen languages.
Throughout the degree course a careful balance is achieved between practical workshop activities and methodologies which allow students to understand and critically evaluate the contemporary world.
